Privacy Notice

Last updated: June 2026

This notice explains what personal information GROUNDED collects when you join the manifest (our email list), why, and what rights you have over it. We keep this short and plain because there is not much to it — we only collect what we need to email you about the game.

Who is responsible

GROUNDED is an independent game project run by an individual based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us"). For any privacy question or request, contact us at hello@groundedthegame.com.

What we collect

When you sign up to the manifest, we collect:

That is all. We do not ask for payment details, addresses, or anything else at this stage. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Why we collect it, and our legal basis

We use your name and email solely to send you updates about GROUNDED — the story, development news, playtesting opportunities, and the launch date. Our legal basis under UK GDPR is your consent, which you give by signing up and confirming your subscription. You can withdraw that consent at any time (see below).

Who processes your data

We do not sell or share your information. We use trusted third-party services to run the site and email list, and your data passes through them only so we can operate:

These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms.

Double opt-in: after you sign up, you will receive an email asking you to confirm. You are only added to the list once you click that link — so you are always in control of joining.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask to be removed, we delete your details from our active list. We do not keep data longer than we need it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

To exercise any of these, email hello@groundedthegame.com and we will action it promptly. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can also complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Cookies & advertising

Most of our site uses no tracking cookies. On our ad landing pages, we use the Meta (Facebook) advertising pixel to measure how our adverts perform — for example, whether someone who clicked an advert went on to join the manifest. This sets cookies and shares event data (such as a page view or signup) with Meta Platforms. With advanced matching enabled, it also shares a hashed (scrambled) version of the name and email you submit, used only to match the action to a Meta account more accurately. We never send Meta your details in plain, readable form.

This is non-essential, so it only runs if you accept via the cookie banner shown on those pages. If you decline, the pixel does not load and nothing is shared with Meta. You can change your mind by clearing your browser's site data for groundedthegame.com, which resets the banner.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we handle data — for example when we add crowdfunding or sell the game — we will update this notice and change the date at the top.
